Geographically, this is the largest constituency
in Saskatchewan. Athabasca is sparsely-populated and covers the far northwest
corner of the province. The major industries in this constituency are
tourism, mining, forestry, commercial fishing, and trapping. Athabasca
is also home to the Cluff Lake uranium mine. The two major communities
are Buffalo Narrows (1,053) and Ile-a-la-Crosse (1,403). "Athabasca"
covered the Northeast corner of the province before it was moved the Northwest
when election boundaries were redrawn before the 1975 election.
